On Monday, July 10th, 2017 to Friday, July 14th, 2017, Lumacare hosted its third Kindred Care Intergenerational Day Camp Program. Lumacare’s Kindred Care Camp is one of our Innovation Centre Initiatives that we are piloting, in an effort to run a full Intergenerational Program in the near future, complete with a licensed day care facility!

The week long camp consists of programming with both Lumacare’s G.L.O.W. Clients and the children of Lumacare staff. (As Lumacare continues to grow and develop the program, we aim to open registration to members of the community.)

The program saw ten campers over the week, from ages four to nine, alongside approximately 15 G.L.O.W. clients. Each day had a different and exciting theme, including Space, Olympics, Science, Jungle Animals and Pirates. As part of the Intergenerational component, campers visited the G.L.O.W. clients multiple times throughout each day for arts and crafts, an animal show, dancing, organized games and more! With a Super Dog Show, Hands on Exotics Animal Show, Scavenger Hunt through the main office, Science Experiments, Ice Cream Truck, and daily arts and crafts both the campers and the Clients of our G.L.O.W. program were constantly engaged.

A big thank you to First Book Canada for donating 300 educational books to the Kindred Care Intergenerational Program initiative. Our campers were able to take home a book each day based on the day’s theme.
