FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Lumacare supports Putting Patients First and Better Access to Care
Monday, December 21, 2015 – North York, Ontario –
As a provider of health and social services to over 3000 older adults, caregivers and community members annually, Lumacare applauds the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) and Minister Hoskins for their bold roadmap to create an integrated health-care system. Although the process of operationalizing a plan of this size and scope will be challenging, Community Support Services (CSS) organizations such as Lumacare can play a pivotal role in the process.
“With this proposal, we will help improve access to the services patients depend on, like primary care and home and community care.” –Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. CSS organizations provide essential programs to patients in both the home and community and it is critical that this collective voice be welcomed and heard in order to improve better access to care. Equally as important will be the continued leadership of the Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs), such as the Central LHIN, who have shown the ability to effectively mobilize and implement system-wide changes that work.
David Mousavi, Lumacare Board Chair stated “Lumacare’s family-centric approach and foundation of quality, innovation and service excellence will only continue to grow and thrive with the new directions from the province. Lumacare looks forward to actively working with our clients, community members, partner organizations, the LHINs and the MOHLTC to put patients first and create better access to care.”
