Inclusive Seniors' Care Resources

At Lumacare, we strive to create an inclusive environment in every aspect of our organization from our policies and procedures, to program delivery and staff training.

Inclusive Care and Resources

Lumacare prides itself on our commitment to the development and implementation of our older adult LGBTQ+ initiatives.

We are a proud member of the Senior Pride Network and have been offering annual LGBTQ+-specific training to our staff members since 2013.

We are consistently looking for ways to expand our services to ensure older adults in our community have the unique support they require.

Vital Ideas Grant with the Toronto Foundation

Lumacare is a past recipient of the Toronto Foundation’s Vital Ideas grant. Through this grant, we were able to continue our work towards our vision for diversity and inclusiveness both within our organization and in the health and social services space for older adults, caregivers, and stakeholders.

We are currently working to support older adults in the LGBTQ+ community with funding from the United Way of Greater Toronto in the following ways:

  • Developing processes and services that support the health and social care needs of LGBTQ+ older adults
  • Built best practices through research for both internal and inter-agency knowledge sharing
  • Training staff on how to better support LGBTQ+ older adults
  • Supporting other agencies in adopting best practices for LGBTQ+ inclusiveness
  • Developing an LGBTQ+ inclusiveness toolkit to be shared with other agencies
